Sony ST-J75 FM Stereo Tuner

The ST-J75 was Sony's top tuner available in the UK in 1981/82. It is not an "ES Series" tuner because Sony did not start using the ES suffix for it's top equipment until around 1983/84. The ST-J75 incorporated Sony's "Direct Comparator" technology which would be carried on into the Company's top ES series tuners through to the late 1980's/early 1990's.

I like the clean, purposeful yet restrained styling which is reminiscent of the Pioneer TX-D1000 from the same period. It had very good specs and strong RF performance as you would expect from a top Sony. The sound quality although good was perhaps not the ultimate. These nevertheless underrated tuners are good value on the used market today (see the eBay price guide in the table below).
